Helmet of Salvation

Ephesians 6:10-20                             September 28, 2014 pm:

Has anyone ever been hit in the head, struck by an unseen object? How many of you have been lured, deceived, tricked or enticed into doing something you know you should not do or participate in?

I’ve heard it say and it may be an old wives tale that 90% of your body heat goes out of your head, therefore wear a bonnet or a toque in the winter. The bottom line would be to protect your noggin, your head against such elements.

Joyce Myers written “The Battle field of the Mind” I sense the urgency that The Apostle Paul does when we are commanded to “take up” the helmet of salvation for your /our/mine protection. Let me ask this question; do not deceive yourself in the process are we in the habit of poisoning our minds, filling and consuming the garbage this world has to offer or are living or trying to live a victorious life.

The Helmet of Salvation can be a crucial part of the Armor of God, yes we know it protects the head, but let us narrow it down.   Four elements that need to be guarded if we are going to succeed in wearing the Helmet of Salvation.

Eyes of the Mind:

How often do we look or stare or glimpse at something that triggers your sinful nature to be awaken. It is easily done, and the world is subtle in its presentation. Pornography posters on the wall (Mike at 17); B movies (Scott at 17-18) with his friends, filling our minds with lust, when actually it is quietly destroying your life.

Would you cause a brother or sister in the Lord to stumble in their walk with Jesus by inviting them in to this culture? How easy it is to be lead astray, some time ago I sought for a picture entitle still waters, there in front of me was a half clad woman, certainly not what I was looking for.

Job 31:1a,4 “I made a covenant with my eyes….Does He not see my ways and count my every step.”

Eyes of Christ:

Surrender every piece of baggage to the Lord, I want, I desire all that you have for me! Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. ”I love what Jesus offers, surrender it to me, give it all, and then you have an empty spot, a void, turn around and ask Jesus to fill you with a spiritual gift that you lack. Matthew 7:7 “Ask and it will be given unto you,….” Do you lack wisdom ask for it, you lack forgiveness ask for it, you lack patience ask for it! The Armor of God is not for us to live a defeated life but to live victorious for Jesus Christ. I’ve heard it said that your eyes are the portals of the soul” In other words whatever your eyes have taken in whether Good or bad reflect the condition of your soul.

Ears of the Mind:

Guard our thoughts by what we hear, caution oneselfwhat you permit to enter in.

Colossians 3:2“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

Confession time I watched a movie Friday night called Point break, but the language was bad, even though Debbie commented I continued to watch. Hind sight is great, is this the kind of entertainment Jesus desires for us to watch, is the language what Christ desires for his children to enter into their home. On the other hand while on holiday Steve, his wife Yvonne and I sat down to watch an old He put movie but we shut it off due to the language and played a board game.

The Helmet of Salvation protects us from the decay of this world,God’s word instructs us exactly what to do.

Romans 12:2“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Be transformed by the renewing of your mind-the renewing of the mind is the renewing of the whole man. The progress of sanctification, dying to sin more and more and living to righteousness more and more, is carrying on this renewing work. We must not conform to the things of this world, we must not conform to the men of this world, we must not follow the multitude of evil.

Acts 4:32 “All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.”

Mouth of the Mind:

Do we repeat what we hear, doers it edify the body of Christ. Our tongue often gets us into more trouble than good, in other words we open wide and insert two feet or at least one. As Christ’s ambassadors do we use our voice to destroy or build up the body of Christ, do we share the mind of Christ or the whisper of the devil.

Psalm 19:14 “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

Does the conversation of our mouth edify the Lord, as children of the Lord do the words of our mouth please him.

Psalm 40:3 “A new song in my mouth,a hymn of praise to our God.Many will see and fear the Lordand put their trust in him.”

Swearing, using profanity does not honor the Lord, Those you work with in industry watch your words and are quick to judge you if your vocabulary is not befitting a Christian.

Illustration: A lady in my previous church confided in me, Pastor I have a problem I’ve handed it over and over to the Lord but it is something I don’t seem to have victory over. Will you pray for me!

Proverbs 16:32 “The hearts of the wise make their mouths prudent,
and their lips promote instruction.”

Romans 10:9 “if you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Use your mouth as a weapon for the glory of the Lord, use it to speak the truth, to stand upon the statues of the Lord. Let your yes be Yes and your No be No that all will see that you are a “soldier of the Lord”.

Paul has saved the best till last, have eyes of the heart.

Eyes of the Heart:To whom does your heart belong? Saved and sanctified by the blood of Jesus Christ, in other words our sole purpose in life is to serve God with all of your Heart, Sole, Mind, Eyes, mouth your very being. Prayer, prayer at all times in the Spirit, stay alert in this. Your mind is weak, open to distractions our strength lies in the Holy Spirit, draw on Jesus, wait on the Holy Spirit and learn. Pray for all the saints, pray also for those who minister the Word.

When I open my mouth and speak the Gospel, pray for me. Recognize the enemy does not want God’s Word preached; Satan will distract us from praying to prevent the work of the Lord to prosper. When you pray I have a check in my Spirit, the power of God is unleashed through your intercession. Divine Revelation, the Mysteries of the Gospel are revealed when we pray for those who are called to represent the Lord.

The Apostle Paul, chained, imprisoned, persecuted never the less asks for boldness when he takes a stand to speak’

1 John 5:14-15“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”
