Love For Christ

Deuteronomy10:12-13- Nov. 9, 2014pm.

“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?”

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. “

Whether you’re a man or a woman, you do not naturally love God. A Humanity that lies dead in sin can only follow the desires and thoughts of the sinful nature. Each of us was born into a depraved society, into a sinful world.

Ephesians 2:1-3 “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.”

Human beings in themselves are without hope and without God in this world, only Christ’s blood can bring life and with it a personal love relationship with the Lord. Living in sin is offensive to the Lord, damaging our relationship with the Lord and the only way we can overcome this sinful lifestyle is to abandon it and surrender yourself afresh to Jesus Christ, some if not all need to do this daily.

The Old testament teach us to fear God, approach him with reverence, to learn to walk in obedience, to love and serve Him with all of your heart, soul, and observe the Lord’s commandments.

Fear the Lord: Holy is the Lord, honor Him with reverence “Be Holy because I am holy.” Walk in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake” “I shall fear no evil.” (Psalm 23) Do we struggle to walk the path of Obedience, to be truthfully we do at time, I do, but there is no way I am going to allow Satan to destroy what God has done in me!

When you think of love is it puppy love that comes to mind, that boy or girl in public school in grade one, your first true love or is it best defined by Divine love, the moment you fell in love with Jesus.

Love Him: The New Testament shows that a person establishes a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through trust, love can exist, and love can grow. Love for God is a response, closely linked with faith. It is created by an awareness of what God has done for us in Christ. For many of us we discover Jesus at an early age, and some later in life but the words of this hymn are real no matter when you come or came to Jesus.

I am so glad that our Father in heaven tells of His love in the book He has given; wonderful things in the bible I see; This is the dearest: that Jesus loves me; I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus love me, Jesus loves me, Jesus loves even me!

1 John 4:19 “We love because he first loved us.” We are instructed in Jesus’ teaching as not only to love God but secondly to love our neighbor, which is not easily accomplished unless we rely on the Holy Spirit. When we truly love one another Love creates community.

Ephesians 5:2“and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

The Love Jesus has poured into us reflect 24/7, it is essential for each of us to grow in Jesus we need to demonstrate love within the body of Christ but equally to our neighbors. (Notice in each of the epistles Paul addresses the need for Christian lifestyle to bear love.

Love Prompts Obedience:

John 14:21 “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

1 John 5:3“In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,”

Real love for God prompts obedience, and this in turn deepens our relationship with God and enables Him to reveal Himself more to us. As soon as we discover the importance of His word & the fellowship we are entitled to on a day to day basis how much richer we will be. If you lack obedience ask Jesus to fill the void in your life with obedience.

Love Prompts Motivation:

1 Thessalonians 1:3 “We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ”

The apostle Paul is convinced that Christ’s love compels us. Christ ‘s love inside of us is the only motivating force that draws commitment to one self. It is not the love of money or the love of power but the love of Jesus that fills our hearts and moves us to love one another.

Love Transforms Character:

Romans 13:10 “Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”

Galatians 5:23“gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Our transformation to Christ’s likeness describes the kind of person each believer is becoming. Love moves the believer to actually be righteous in every relationship. Not one of us has perfected “the Love Christ Offer to share” but that until He calls us home we are to daily practice and permit this transformation to continue.

Love Provides a Purpose:

John warns us against love of the world. God calls us to only love God and our fellow man. Only “Love lifted me! Love lifted me! When nothing else could help, Love lifted me.” God’s Love can begin to blossom when we are open to whatever He has installed.

1 Thessalonians 4:10 “And in fact, you do love all of God’s family throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do so more and more,”

2 Thessalonians 3:5 “May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.”

Hebrews 10:24“And let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds,”

Love stabilizes Relationships:

It is love that maintains unity in the body of Christ. Love makes it possible for us to give others freedom in matters of personal conviction and to be sensitive when our convictions might cause offense.

Philippians 2:2“then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.”

Love compels Concern:

Love moves believers to share freely to help meet the spiritual and material needs of others.

1 John 3:16-18“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

Conclusion:God’s love is available to all humanity. Despite the cost, the Father sent His One and Only Son to die for us and bear our sins. There is no Greater love than this.
