National Repentance 1

2 Chronicles 7:14

if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Humble/Humility: Rid oneself of all arrogance and pride; do not let them be a hindrance nor a stumbling block as you call out to the Lord. One of the biggest problems we face today is what we worship. Throughout Scripture God desires for His children to worship the Lord your God and only Him. Throw away your idols and return to the Lord. As we speak of humbling oneself, what is involved?

Romans 12:1-3 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.”

Is it a battle for us to humble ourselves before the Lord, tough love is required, if we have died to self, we no longer live but Christ lives in us. As God’s children we are called to humble ourselves and face the pain of self-examination and the confession of sins. Cleanse your thoughts, your deeds, hand it all over to the Lord on a daily basis.

Secondly, we are called to “pray and seek His face:”

The mandate of prayer is to seek Him, first, let Jesus be the priority in your life. Seek His kingdom first. Pray and seek: when we seek God a casual glance in His direction is hardly sufficient. But we can be sure that God “rewards those who earnestly seek Him."

Hebrews 11:6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

Thirdly, the Call we hear from the Lord is that of Repentance, to turn from our wicked ways. From the time Jesus began to preach “repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Repentance defined to feel pain, sorrow, or regret for something that one has done, or left undone; to be conscience stricken or contrite; to change one’s mind about some past action, intention in consequence, or regret or dissatisfaction. Repent simply means us to turn from evil and focus on the Lord and follow His ways. The Old Testament defines repentance as “about face” to a new commitment. The New Testament associates repentance with new direction for life. Hear the message John preached in the wilderness “repent and be baptized” he was preparing them to ready themselves for the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ. The one who repents has faith, for it is faith in God that is expressed when we carry out a decision to turn from old ways and commit ourselves to God’s ways. Yet many of us have struggled with sin:

Frances Hunter writes these words: “A Hebrew word for repentance is shuwb, which means to turn back. It means not repeating something because you have learned that there are consequences to it, such as touching a hot stove. Any young child can testify to that kind of repentance. Once he has been burned, he will be careful to avoid contact with the flame so that it won’t happen again.”

As followers, as believers we only need to turn to the Lord, not at a glance but to earnestly seek Him with im withHimHhumility and repentance and they would find forgiveness and restoration. This is an answer to Solomon’s prayer that God’s presence among His people would be eternal.

Those who have chosen to be His people must cease from their sins, and turn from living lives of proud self-centeredness, pray to the Lord and yield their desires to His Word and His Will. Then, and only then, will He grant heaven sent revival.

There is no other verse so popular in Chronicles than this verse: if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

It’s time to get excited are you ready, how’s your anticipation? Are you eager to sink into His Word; “I will hear from Heaven” The Lord has spoken a promise “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven….”

What does this mean? Let’s take a closer look.

then I will hear from heaven…”

Proverbs 8:17 “I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.”

Seek me earnestly, seek me with passion, seek me first, before anything else, that is, begin early in the days of your youth and seek me, and you shall find what you seek. The author encourages us put the Lord first, Christ shall be theirs and they shall be His. They shall have as much riches and honor as infinite wisdom sees good for them. Lord, increase my love for Thee, teach me thy ways. Church do you love Jesus this morning, then I encourage you to seek him and find Him. Seek Him, seek Him with a quenching thirst for more of Him and discover His ways and be satisfied.

Jeremiah 29:13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” What a blessing to call upon the name of the Lord, to seek and pray. Jeremiah reminds the children deliverance is coming! We are called to pray and go forth to meet it. Hear what God promises His children “I will listen to you and I will be found in you.” Jesus promises us in Matthew 7:7 Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Jesus does not settle for our seconds He desires our best, He declares seek me with all of your heart. Let us pause for a moment and reflect “Does Jesus have our whole heart?” If yes is your answer what stops us from fulfilling His mandate for prayer!

Psalms 34:11Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.” Jesus gives you and I the invitation to come, leave your play. Lay aside your toys and hear what I have to say. Not only give me your hearing, but observe and obey.

Psalms 34:15 “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry;” His children are under special favor and protection. He will direct and guide them, to protect and keep them. What a picture, such insight on the psalmist as he calls on the Lord in the midst of seeking Him with all of his heart. As parents your eyes are on them you don’t let them out of sight, likewise with the Lord, constantly His gaze is fixed on you.

Psalms 34:1-3 “I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together.”

David desires to praise Him heartily, I am interested in Him. Those of you who love the Lord are invited to join and seek Him with all of your heart. Let us magnify the name of the Lord, exalt His name above all names. We must do this together. God’s praise sounds best in concert. Amen!
