Last week end we were each challenged by our Bro. Bill Morrow as he shared Jeremiah 20:9 “His word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones.”He spoke of four men used by God but for me it was the Saturday evening that God spoke to me. God has called each of us to serve Him, called us to do different tasks, equipped us with different gifts yet why do we feel so inadequate. Yes, there are times in my life I question why me Lord. I heard Rev. Billy Graham being interviewed on Television some years ago was asked what is one question He would ask God; his response why me? Bro. Bill challenged us to recognize you are called, set apart for a Holy calling, God Almighty has equipped you, therefore you lack nothing, throw of the doubt, cling to the promises of God. Even though I heard the words they did not prevent the doubt, I looked around at the other pastors, seeing their commitment, their gifting, suddenly a hand touched me on the shoulder in the midst of the prayer service, Mark lead us in prayer, pray for these men, I suddenly cried out to God grant thy servant the wisdom to pray in a manner that your servants would know you have heard their cry, one word came to me His name is Jesus.
The bottom line is God has spoken and called us to serve Him, do not let Satan rob you of what God has started. I was called to pray for five men, yet behind me, around me were 85 men praying with me, but this is how the Spirit of God spoke 6pm in Sharbot Lake our prayer warriors were lifting us up in prayer and peace of the Holy Spirit brought me comfort.
Philippians 4:13 “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”
The only way you or I are going to have an impact for Jesus is approaching a daily, hourly basis and surrendering to Him. Relying on Jesus, Relying on my Lord, waiting for Him to guide and direct our path. Yesterday I found myself preparing for today and I was surely not dwelling on my abilities I was trusting in God alone. My prayer was simple, no distraction, Your Word be spoken, Your message delivered! We need His strength to teach us to be content in every circumstance. Paul’s gives praise to Christ for his constant renewed strength that enables Him to act in everything.
Each of us need to be encouraged, no matter the battle, the struggle we find ourselves in God will supply. As I prepared for holidays this week I envisioned an easier week a wind down week but that’s not what God had in mind. You are called to serve, a grieving family in need, a family who needed to hear God’s Word bring comfort, to know that He loves them and is simply waiting for each of us to reach out and take Him by the hand. So that’s what I learned this week no matter the business, the hardships one might face He will supply.
Isaiah 40:28-31 “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary,they will walk and not be faint.”
Strength-it is important to acknowledge that Israel did not always trust the Lord, for they knew many defeats. The army of flesh failed. But there was a turning to God, when they trusted and were not afraid, when they recognized God as their strength and song there was renewed victory. God is the strength of His people, He gives strength and power to His people, He helps the weak and helps those who are willing and humble towards Him.
Martin Luther-“Thus it is with the church of Christ: it goes on in apparent weakness; and yet in its weakness, there is such mighty strength and power, that all the worldly wise and powerful must stand amazed thereat and fear.”
Our strength church is not built upon man but on God’s Power, upon the mighty name of Jesus, In the Word of God and relying on the promised Comforter, the Holy Spirit!
God is all powerful; He continues to be able to come to the aid of His people. Claim the promise of scripture in Isaiah “He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.”We the church are not called to live a defeated life but are called to live in victoriously, full and abundantly John 10:10.
Illustration: I have a confession, a week ago Saturday I was filled with pride, good pride! 90 men registered for “Ignite” 7:15am prayer chapel and all six men walked in to seek the Lord, much prayer had gone into this event, our prayer was that these men would be changed by the presence of the Lord. I was filled with righteous pride but then I thanked the Lord.
Philippians 3:16 “Only let us live up to what we have already attained.”The Apostle Paul gives us words of encouragement not having received but pressing on towards that final goal.
Philippians 3:14 “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
When will the race conclude, when God calls us home or when He returns for His Bride? Remain strong in the Lord; continue to run the race, press forward no matter the cost, the obstacles, run, run and run some more. Matthew Henry remarks “The fitter we grow for heaven the faster we press towards it” There is no getting to heaven as our home but through Christ as our way.
How many of you have ever run the three legged race? You have a partner, your depending on them to help you cross the line but it is a challenge, you have to work together, work in harmony, be coordinated. The best way is to run towards the finish line, fall down, get tangled up, pick yourself up and finish the race.
Paul encourages us to “press forward”
The chorus Jehovah Jireh reads: “My God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory; He gives His angels charge over me, Jehovah Jireh cares for me, for me, for me, Jehovah Jireh cares for me.”
God shall supply me with Strength, Direction, and move towards the finish line. Do not try running backwards, sideways move towards the prize.
Romans 8:11”And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.”
But the Spirit that is life. The life of the saint lies in the soul, while the life of the sinner goes no further than the body. When the body dies the spirit is alive. As believers our destination is Heaven bound the promise is found in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” As we strive to cross that finish line let us receive the instruction from Joshua 1:7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.”
Dietrich Bonhoeffer-“I think God is nearer to suffering than to happiness, and to find God in this way gives peace and rest and a strong and courageous heart.”
Children of God, heirs of Christ Jesus obedience are our strength! To whom do you put your trust in?
Ephesians 3:16-19 “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”
Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
Psalms 1:1-2”Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners takeor sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.”
